#BookTalk- The Shadow Prince by Bree Despain

The Shadow Prince by Bree Despain

The #BookTalk has come. This will have no spoilers (I promise), and the first person to retweet my tweet about this #BookTalk will get a free copy of the book with fun book swag (USA only).

So let me begin the tale...Daphne, a girl who has never left her small town of Ellis, would like to be a famous singer one day. She  has found her big break, a local talent contest not far from town. But her overprotective mother would never allow it. Daphne thinks all hope of her dreams may be lost, well until her famous rock star dad reappears in her life and gives her everything she wanted. A chance in pursue music in a prodigious music school in California. Everything seems to be going well for Daphne, well until Haden shows up and tries to take her to who knows where. But Haden, an Underlord with the quest to bring Daphne to the Underworld, is no match for Daphne right hook. As Haden tries to find a way to bring Daphne back to his world...Daphne is trying to experience every bit of freedom she now has after leaving Ellis. But fate has something different in store for them.

Characters

Haden. The definition of dark and mysterious. He is disowned by his father, after his mother's death. His shame haunts him. So when he is given a second chance, he is determined to have his honor restored. But first he has to learn how to act human...which I might add, is pretty comical, as he tries to understand music, cell phones, driving and girls. Haden is a little creepy at first, but as he relieves more of himself to Daphne....it is just so sweet and heartstrings pulling that you can't help but love him.

Daphne. I like her. She is not your damsel in distress. She knows what she wants and doesn't let anyone to stand in her way, not means girls at school, her distant father or her destiny. She is logical and a bad ass all packed into this musical genius. I can't leave out that she can heard everything living things inner song. A little strange, but what is strange is that an Underlord has her name scarred into his arm....now that is strange! Daphne is definitely someone you don't want to mess with, maybe someone should have given Haden the memo.

Plot

I love Greek mythology, so when this book was based on it you know I kind of fangirl screamed. Hades is one of my favorites, so dark and misunderstood. The best part is that it is no ordinary Greek mythology retelling my friends, there are layers, onion layers!
It is told from both Haden and Daphne's POV, which is fun, becasue of all the dramatic irony. But what is even better is that the book is just getting started. At first, I thought it was going to anti-climatic, but it wasn't, I was in for a surprise.

All in All

If you like Greek myths, and bad ass main characters this book is for you. At first I was a little ehh about the book, but it was totally not what I was expecting, and it was freakin awesome!! I have read the Dark Divine series by Bree Despain, but this one is on a whole other level of awesome! The characters actually do sensible things, and the plot is layered!! Layered I tell you! This book was a great start to my summer reading!!
