Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
Since this is the second book in the series, there will be spoilers if you didn't read the first one.
First Line: The shutters swinging in the storm winds were the only sign of her entry.
Another awesome book in this series, I really am starting to fall in love with each character which makes it hard when something bad happens to them (which is basically inevitable). So we left off with Celaena being appointed the King's Champion. Being tasked with killing for the king goes against her moral judgement becasue he is the man who killed her parents. Something is bound to go wrong with that kind of history...it does of course. Then there is some love triangling going on, and what YA fan doesn't like one of those? As Celaena gets tasked with killing an old friend, she starts to dig up the truth about what is truly going on in the castle and outside its walls. There is a rebellion coming, but who will be brave and maybe stupid even enough to challenge the King?
This book is filled with mystery and twists and turns like in the first one, but many more secrets are revealed. We can't forget the killing because there is a lot of that going on. Can't wait to read the third book but I will wait a little for my heart to recover from this last one.
Last Line: Chaol sank to his knees.
Characters: Love Triangle
(this is a special addition to this part: examining the love triangle)
Point 1: Celaena: the main heroine. She can find plenty of ways to kill you as she is shaking your hand. Even though she has a hard exterior, she is soft on the inside. She is just like any other girl. She loves to shop and wear nice dresses, most importantly she loves to read. She loves passionately though, and that poses a threat to anyone who tries to harm those people. Anyone.
Point 2: Chaol: he hated Celaena. He was the only one who saw her for who she really was, dangerous. He understood Celaena's skills and knew her strength. But all that time they spend together training, her charm is bound to rub off on him. Because come on! Celaena is awesome. So his hate did turn to love. Celaena didn't only soften him but herself. After Sam it was hard for her to get close to anyone in that way. To be so personal. Making Chaol and her a perfect match (in my eyes).
Point 3: Prince Dorian: he fell hard for Celaena. Jumped off with no escape. Celaena indulged those feelings, and it made him dependent on them. He never saw her as dangerous even though he was fully capable of understanding what she does for a living. They both love books, and found it easy to be in each others company. But names mean something. A prince cannot be with an assassin! That is what ulitmately ended it. And the fact that Dorian had some growing up to do. He is the Crowned Prince and has a conscience, unlike his father, he has to stand up for what is right. Otherwise the kingdom will be doomed, even more so than it is already. It is sad becasue even though he knows Celeana is right, he can't help but still care for her and get jealous when she talks to other people. He said he is over it, but we all know that is a lie.
All in All
I want to talk about everything that happens in the book. But that would just be toooo much of a spoiler. And I want you to read the book. The books are getting better and better. If you loved the first one reading this one is without question. The author really knows what she is doing! Must Read!
